SUMMARY:ACT! Training - Great River Soccer Club - Saturday 4/1\, 10AM
DESCRIPTION:Learn the signs that someone could be struggling with mental health challenges\, how to provide support\, & protective/risk factors of soccer\n\n\nThe objectives of the USC-MHS ACT! Training are much like those of a first aid course. We will teach participants the signs and symptoms of a mental health challenge and/or crisis\, how to de-escalate a situation to avoid harm to oneself or others\, and what pathways are available for additional professional support. The course also focuses on those factors about soccer participation that can protect individuals from experiencing mental health challenges and those factors that can put them at greater risk. Our training always includes national and local community resources that can be utilized for additional mental health support. \nThe course agenda is based on the acronym ACT!\, encouraging anyone who is concerned about their own mental health or that of someone else to act in support. First\, we will grow AWARENESS of the importance of mental health in soccer along with the prevalence of challenges\, next we will provide information on signs and symptoms to be aware of regarding the most common mental health CHALLENGES experienced by soccer community members (depression\, anxiety\, and suicidality)\, and finally\, options will be provided on how to TAKE ACTION if you are concerned about yourself or someone else\, including your athletes while coaching soccer. \nAthletes 16 and older\, coaches\, parents\, administrators\, officials\, and any other adults affiliated with the Great River SC are welcome to attend. \nThis FREE session has been made possible by a generous donation from the Minnesota-based Jordyn Clark Foundation in its vision for a world where mental health and well-being are valued and supported\, and where suicide is no longer seen as a necessary or acceptable outcome. \n\n\nMargaret DomkaMargaret Domka is a Co-founder and the Executive Director of the U.S. Center for Mental Health & Sport. She is also carrying out mental health and sport research at Clemson University. Margaret is a Mental Health First Aid certified instructor and holds the IOC Certificate on Mental Health in Elite Sport. She is a former FIFA Women's World Cup referee and served on the USA panel of FIFA referees for 10 years.

SUMMARY:Processing a Tragedy: Supportive Mental Health Conversations for Parents
DESCRIPTION:Join a USC-MHS Licensed Master Social Worker for an opportunity to talk about the recent tragic loss of an athlete. Reflect & heal together.\n\n\nProcessing a Tragedy: Supportive Mental Health Conversations for Parents \nThe U.S. Center for Mental Health & Sport (USC-MHS) is offering a small-group virtual opportunity for parents to talk about the recent tragic loss of one of the community's soccer players to suicide. \nWhile this is not a therapy session\, it is an opportunity to connect with others from the community to reflect and heal together. It is a chance to share the emotions we may be feeling and express the concerns we may have about how we help each other and the peer athletes of the departed individual to process this loss. \nThis is intended to be a safe space where parents from the community can come together for respectful conversations about this difficult time. Therefore\, the conversation is intended to be free flowing with participants able to bring up their concerns and thoughts throughout. The USC-MHS Licensed Master Social Worker\, Emily Moeller\, will also provide conversation starters and will guide these conversations. \nThis opportunity for parents will be held 3 times. Feel free to sign up for 1\, 2\, or all 3 sessions as your schedule allows.
