SUMMARY:ATHLETIC DIRECTORS EVENT: ACT! Certification\, Thurs. June 26\, 12-2PM EDT
DESCRIPTION:An opportunity for ADs to increase their mental health (MH) awareness & how to respond to challenges\, and bring MH programs to their schools\n\n\nEarn an ACT! Mental Health Awareness Certification and learn how you can bring additional mental health support to your school community!\n \nLearn more about how YOU can ACT! to support yourself and others when they may be struggling with mental health challenges! \n \nAudience \nThis course is a great option for anyone involved in sport who would like to learn more about mental health and sport. That includes: athletes\, parents\, coaches\, administrators\, and officials\, among others. As an athletic director\, you lead the way in your sport community and this is a perfect way to upskill yourself in this space while also better understanding how you can bring mental health programming to your athletics programs. Sign up for the certification course today! \n \nWhat will you learn? \nThe objectives of the USC-MHS ACT! Certification are much like those of a first aid course. We will teach the signs and symptoms of a mental health challenge and/or crisis\, how to de-escalate a situation to avoid harm to oneself or others\, and what pathways are available for additional professional support. The course also focuses on those factors about sport participation that can protect individuals from experiencing mental health challenges and those factors that can put them at greater risk. Our training always includes national resources that can be utilized for additional mental health support. \n \nCourse Agenda \nThe 2-hour course agenda is based on the acronym ACT!\, encouraging anyone who is concerned about their own mental health or that of someone else to act in support. First\, we will grow AWARENESS of the importance of mental health in sport along with the prevalence of challenges\, next we will provide information on signs and symptoms to be aware of regarding the most common mental health CHALLENGES experienced by sport community members (depression\, anxiety\, and suicidality)\, and finally\, options will be provided on how to TAKE ACTION if you are concerned about yourself or someone else. \n \nACT! Certification \nAfter fully participating in this course\, you will receive a certificate reflecting your participation in this ACT! training that is good for 3-years. \n\n\nMargaret DomkaMargaret Domka is a Co-founder and the Executive Director of the U.S. Center for Mental Health & Sport.
