The Mental Health in Youth Sport Initiative has been launched in sport clubs of Upstate South Carolina and is being supported by a grant through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. ACT! CERTIFICATION:
Mental Health Awareness Certification
The certification is for
athletes,
coaches,
parents,
and anyone else
affiliated with participating sport clubs.
This certification is being offered free of charge.
2-hour Certification course for everyone on your team
+
includes local, national, & international mental health resources.
The purpose of the ACT! Certification is to increase awareness and help prevent mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and suicide. We discuss the risk and protective factors for mental health within sport along with how we can minimize the risk factors and bolster the protective factors.

The U.S. Center for Mental Health & Sport wants to give athletes a voice in advocating for increased mental health awareness and mental health support at all levels of sport across the country. We are looking for current athletes ages 15 - 24 who are passionate about bringing opportunities for improved mental health to their sport communities and are leaders and role models for other athletes within those communities.
Athlete Mental Health Ambassadors have a lot to gain by participating in this initiative! The program will provide opportunities to learn more about mental health and how Athlete Ambassadors can BE the DIFFERENCE! Participants will receive the ACT! Mental Health Awareness Certification and have the chance to interact with elite athletes talking about and supporting mental health along with mental health professionals who are also passionate about sport. This program is a fantastic resume builder for any future professional path!
